On the railroad that helped build America, two immigrant Chinese laborers navigate survival, identity, and what it means to chase the American Dream.

Set on a California mountain during the 1867 Chinese Railroad Workers Strike, The Dance and the Railroad explores the lives of two laborers: Ma, an optimistic and idealistic recent immigrant to California hoping to make his fortune; and Lone, the pragmatic and independent former Chinese opera actor who was forced to leave the opera school by his parents to work in America. While taking refuge away from the labor camp, Lone reluctantly teaches Ma how to perform Chinese opera. As their friendship grows, Lone and Ma reminisce about the homes they left behind, the lives they hope to build and what it means to chase the American Dream. Through the beauty and athleticism of Chinese opera, The Dance and the Railroad tells an intimate story of friendship and the ways art and personal history intersect with the larger story of America.

Latino Theater Company is committed to providing full access to patrons with disabilities. Our theatre is ADA accessible and is enabled with the following features.
A minimum of 3 wheelchair and semi-ambulatory tickets are available throughout this Theater.
Our theatre has raked seating, with steps to most rows. Most seats are fixed, though there are a limited number of free-standing seats that may be preferable for some patrons.
Accessible seating is available to those with mobility disabilities who require accessible seating because of their disability, at most price levels. This includes individuals who use wheelchairs, those who use other mobility devices, and people who cannot climb steps or walk long distances because of significant arthritis, or severe respiratory, circulatory, or cardiac conditions. Individuals who, because of their disability, cannot sit in a straight-back chair or those whose service dogs cannot fit under a non-accessible seat or lie safely in the aisle are also permitted to purchase accessible seats.
Individuals purchasing a ticket for an accessible seat may purchase up to three (3) additional seats for their companions in the same row and that are contiguous with the accessible seat. If contiguous seats have already been sold and are not available, the Latino Theater Co. will offer other seats as close to the accessible seats as possible.
